Springtime in New York

I have just returned from another wonderful few days New York - a city that never fails to inspire me.  I stayed at the nostalgic Maritime Hotel in Chelsea - I always imagine that Don Draper might stroll past in the lobby.  Over the weekend NYC was blessed by a golden light and gorgeous warm pre-spring weather.  I took the opportunity to race around the city to study different hotels, restaurants, taverns, patios, markets... what a wealth of great places to research for upcoming projects.  Of course, New York is also a place to reunite with dear friends and strengthen new business relationships, and I did that as well, lucky me.

Marianne Lovink at the Olga Korper Gallery

.

Marianne Lovink is showing at the Olga Korper Gallery from March 3-28th; what beautiful, whimsical, well crafted work.  The Olga Korper Gallery (11 Morrov Avenue) is one of the great gallery spaces in the city.  I had the pleasure of first meeting Marianne 10 years ago while I was working on the Drake Hotel - she has her Hanging Garden piece hanging in the Drake dining room stairwell.  I love the hand drawn details, and the colours painted on the backs of some of the delicate shapes that cast tinted shadows on the gallery walls.
