The Importance of Dinner

.
 .
During a dinner party over the weekend at the home of two dear friends I was reminded of how important the simple pleasures are.  I am fortunate that beautiful spaces, interesting people, good food and drink, and the rewards of my working life often coincide very naturally.

I love the beautiful disarray of a dining table after the guests have departed and only the unruly signs of enjoyment and good conversation remain.  In this instance, the hand sewn linens, exotic artifacts, art, books and silverware all added their own stories to the evening.  True to form we also discussed the proportion and shape of the table and decided that it was quite suitable for the feast.

  1. One of the most lovely elements of having a good dinner party, I reckon, is coming out the morning after to survey the scene - it's a wonderful reminder, in the light of day, about just how much pleasure and shared conversation was had - and the little groupings of glasses and dishes capture the story of the night before.

Just found your blog, and having a lovely time going through it on this sunny saturday morning in Melbourne. What a fascinating life of travels you have had.

  2. Agreed! Dinner parties really do capture the essence of the good fortune that we have to be able to enjoy friends, conversation and a meal together. Thanks for visiting!
