The August long weekend was truly blissful, spent at a beautifully restored 19th century schoolhouse cottage owned by dear friends.  (Featured in House and Home in October 2010).  I am currently designing the 'Meadow House' for them - a new guest house building to be sited just beyond the garden.

It has been an incredibly busy season, with the initiation of new projects and construction underway on others.  Renovation is being planned for two additional floors at Munich Re on Bay St (24,000 sf of new office and swing space), work is about to begin at the Covenant House, and the designs for the Heart Lake Cabana and the Meadow House are progressing very nicely.  New phases of design are starting up at the Rosedale House in order to renovate the ground and second floors including a new kitchen and additions.  As well, there are exciting graphic design projects happening through Backyard Design.

What a beautiful day to assess this country site for a series of little retreat buildings.  The first on the design agenda is perfect for the meadow in the lower image, just beyond the wild rock garden.  I spent the day measuring and sketching plans.  Two other small buildings are in mind for the future, one to be sited discretely within the clearing in the upper photograph.  These are part of a long term vision for the property, responding to and respecting the sprawling beauty and historic uses of the land.
